The 3d Artistry of Satira Capriccio
About Satira Capriccio
A Wee Bit About Me
A child. Hidden in quiet corners. Reading. Drawing. A teenager. Exploring oil painting. A course at Lane Community College. Late 20s. College student. Immersed in art. Drawn to sculpture and sculptural ceramics. Sculpting stole my soul.
1980. A new chapter. Founding member of a Cooperative art gallery in Eugene, Oregon. The next six years? Sculptures in open and juried exhibitions in Eugene and Portland.
1994. Artist in Residence. Nantucket Island School of Design and the Arts (NISDA). Six-month program. Worked at NISDA through the summer. Accepted into a local artist’s gallery. Left Nantucket before becoming a member.
Cold light of day. The next several years? An application developer career took focus.
Summer. 2006. A need to create art. Discovered DAZ Studio. Then Poser 5. Driven from the start to create my own characters. Then clothing for my often unique body types. First Marvelous Designer 2. Then Silo 2.
May 15, 2015. Reached out to HiveWire 3D with a project for Dawn. Encouraged by co-founders Lisa Buckalew and Christopher Creek.
March 13, 2016. An ambitious first project released.

My 3d artwork is rendered in Poser using purchased content or content I create. In addition to a base render, I will also create multiple mask renders or partial renders. These renders are then combined in Photoshop and enhanced with postwork through the application of Photoshop, Filter Forge, and Alien Skin filters and actions and the use of overlays. My characters tend to be otherworldly, with a touch of fae.
Open Rendering Season Contests
Running annually from 2007 to 2019, The Songbird ReMix Open Rendering Season Contest was hosted by Hivewire 3d and Ken Gilliland’s Songbird ReMix. Frequent co-sponsors included Filter Forge, Smith Micro, and Renderosity, with generous prize packages scaling up to over $3,200.
The judging panel was composed of Audubon California staff. Anywhere from three to twelve staff members reviewed the submissions over the years. Several times, the executive director of Audubon California served as a judge. As people entirely outside the 3d world, their evaluations came from a deep love and expert knowledge of birds and natural habitats. Having my art chosen by them was a profound honor.
